Best JD Programs in the USA
This page selects US JD programs whose official pages document specific features of the degree itself: required clinical or experiential credit, named concentrations or certificates, distinctive first-year structure, and part-time, hybrid or online routes with stated in-person requirements. It is a starting list for comparison, not a league table, and it covers only schools in our directory.

Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, Arizona State University
Phoenix, Arizona, United States
JD / professional law degree: Juris Doctor (JD) Online (part-time)
ASU's online JD is a part-time, 88-credit programme designed for three and a half to four years, with electives aimed at public service and rural practice; most classes are asynchronous, but students must join blocks of synchronous learning announced two months before each semester. The page does not state a required campus visit. The ABA lists ASU among schools with acquiescence for distance JD programmes and warns such formats may limit bar eligibility in some states.

Stanford's JD page stresses interdisciplinary study: students have broad access to courses outside the law school, can add a master's or doctorate through a joint degree, and can take teamwork-oriented simulation courses alongside students and faculty from other parts of the university. The page also points to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars programme for cross-university graduate funding and leadership training.

How this was chosen
Each program was assessed from its own law school pages and our provider records, looking for concrete, checkable features of the JD, with every quote checked against fetched page text. Online and hybrid formats are described from the school's page, and ABA acquiescence for distance education is cited only from the ABA's own list. The selection is unranked, uses no ranking positions or outcome figures, completeness of our data did not influence inclusion, and our research is partial.
Criteria
- Required or clearly structured clinical and experiential credit
- Named concentrations, certificates or areas of study
- Joint, dual or cross-university options
- Distinctive first-year or cohort design
- Precisely described part-time, hybrid or online structure with stated in-person requirements
Limitations
Many pages in the pool are thin (a degree overview with no feature detail), and several well-known schools, including Chicago, Michigan, Texas, Virginia and Duke, were not selected because the pages read gave too little concrete JD-specific detail, which says nothing about their quality. Southern and Mountain West schools are under-represented for the same reason. No ranking lists, bar passage or employment figures were used; for online and hybrid entries, ABA acquiescence is cited from the ABA list and bar eligibility rules vary by state, so confirm your jurisdiction before enrolling.
